Today we are shining a light on Joan Christian, an amazing woman and entrepreneur who opened PS9 pet store many years ago.
She is a famous face in our hood but more importantly, she knows everything about our pets.
She helped us rescue Josephine, one of our founders and has reassured Leica and Haley too many times to count.
Joan is our pet expert, always there to answer questions and share her wisdom!
More than a pet store, PS9 is a safe place for all of us!
She has dedicated her life to helping and rescuing pets, to improve their lives and give them a second chance!
We know that many of you already know Joan and her store but do you know her story?

Here is a brief history of Joan and her Williamsburg business, ps9pets!
After years of working in the fashion industry she was itching for a change. She has lived in Williamsburg with her two awesome cats since early 2000 and had been commuting to the city. It dawned on her as she was schlepping cat litter home from Soho one night that we could use a pet supply store on the Northside.
She researched everything, obtained a small business loan, and renovated her current storefront with the help of a wonderful friend who built nearly everything in the store, and traded labor for cat food.
. Nearly 17 years later, PS9 is still here, surviving the pandemic, on-line shopping, huge competitors and many more obstacles along the way.
As Joan said: « If it weren't for the animal rescue I'm not sure I would have continued. I do it for them, every day. »

Community is our strength, we can support each other and make our neighborhood a great place to live and grow.
